Welcome to Taylor Hooper Photography. I am the go-to guy for affordable actor headshots, New York City is my base of operation. I have been called one of the best headshot photographers New York City has to offer and I strive to make that statement fact. My mission is to create headshots that really say something about you! How do I do this? Well to start with, let's talk about the look. I can create a variety of different acting headshot styles for you: we can do indoor headshots with studio lighting, with a white, black or neutral background. With studio lighting I can create different moods from dramatic and artistic with lots of shadows, to bright and sunny with even light, perfect for Commercial or Musical Theater headshots. I also shoot outdoors, using natural light with an almost unlimited variety of backgrounds and settings. To get an idea of the many different looks I can create for you, please view my portfolio by clicking here.

Reveal the Real You
Talking about headshots with agents, managers, and other actors you hear a lot of advice. "The eyes need to pop." "You have to have a legit, and a commercial/musical theater headshot." "A headshot has to show your type." "New York headshots vs. LA headshots" and so on and so on. But what does all that really mean? The most important thing in a headshot is that it reveals the real you. It has to say something about your unique qualities. To that end, I tell my clients to think about the headshot session as a conversation with friends. We want to show you being YOU naturally. Your commercial or smiley headshot should look like you are telling a friend a happy or exciting story. Your legit or dramatic headshot should look like you are engaged in a more intense, mischievous or serious conversation with a friend. I try to make that happen by creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere where you can comfortably express yourself, then everything else falls into place. While I agree with the mainstream that says "everyone should have at least two headshots -- a more serious and a more light or commercial headshot," my goal is to tailor that to you. If you are a comedian who wants to audition for specifically comedies, sitcoms, and lighter fare, then maybe your "serious headshot" doesn't have to be all that serious. Maybe it's simply a contrast to the laughing, bright, smiley commercial headshot that comes so easily to you. Maybe it's a closed-mouth smile, with a secret behind it. Conversely if you are a very serious actor auditioning for more dramatic roles, soap operas, Shakespeare, etc., then the contrast to your intense, dramatic headshot could simply be a closed-mouth smile with a wry sense of humor behind it, or whatever level of levity is most common in your day to day character.
